Vancouver Island once again looked a bit.. warped, at least from Port Angeles.
My Dad noticed that the Victoria skyline again looked stretched as if someone got too overzealous with the clone tool in Photoshop.
It’s a mirage — also known as a Fata Morgana. It’s caused by the warm air (mid 70s) getting cooled by the chilly waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca (50s).
The cooling of the air right near the water surface changes the density and in turn, will bend the light beams as they traveled from Victoria to my Dad over across the way in Port Angeles.
The effect is to sometimes give wild stretched or warped visuals coasts and skylines. Happens quite often over there but he happened to get a good catch of it today!
